Maxim outs micro PLC analogue-output system for Industry 4.0

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. has announced a 16bit analogue output system that allows engineers to meet the higher resolution, distributed control requirements of Industry 4.0 industrial factory automation designs. The MAXREFDES60# reference module gives micro programmable logic controller (PLC) designs an ultra-low-power, highly accurate analogue output in an ultra-small form factor roughly the size of a credit card, indicated the company.

The highly integrated reference module claims to be a complete system design that includes a MCU and an isolated power architecture. Users can simply plug MAXREFDES60# into a computer via USB, apply power, and begin evaluation within minutes, noted Maxim.


The module supports 0-10V output voltage with a typical power consumption of 240mW enabled by the efficient, isolated 24V power supply, stated the company. It also boasts less than 0.05 per cent error over the entire output range. In addition, the MAXREFDES60# combines a MCU, DAC, power supply, voltage reference and digital isolator for quick implementation, and offers magnetically immune data isolation to prevent data corruption.

The MAXREFDES60# board is available for $39 at Maxim's website and select franchised distributors. Hardware and firmware design files, as well as test data, are provided free and available online.
