WiFi module evaluation kit flaunts additional features

Silex Technology America Inc. has unleashed an evaluation kit that enables device makers and system integrators to evaluate the Silex wireless radio module and driver with Freescale's i.MX6 processor on the SABRE smart devices board. According to the company, the SX-6K3-EVK-SD is an off the shelf, plug and play kit that simplifies the evaluation process.

To ease the evaluation, the SX-6K3-EVK-SD comes with an 8GB SD card pre-loaded with an Ubuntu Linux image containing binary images of Silex Technology's optimised AR6003 dual band driver, wireless security supplicant and test utilities. It also integrates a wireless radio module (SX-SDCAN) and the necessary tools (iperf and sxwlanconfig utility) to evaluate performance and throughput. By simply replacing the SD card in the SABRE board, the system boots directly from the SD card into the GNOME desktop. It includes step by step instructions for setup and testing of the WiFi interface.

The evaluation platform allows evaluation of wireless connectivity quality, enterprise wireless security compatibility, radio performance and throughput, roaming performance and configuration options.

The Silex driver is based on the latest version of the Qualcomm reference driver v3.4. It is the latest driver and is not readily available to the open source community yet. Some of the other features that the Silex driver includes, but not limited to, are WiFi Direct support, access point and station mode, power save mode, wireless protected setup and roaming.

The SX-6K3-EVK-SD is available from Silex.
