IC Insights has forecasted that in the next few years, the IC market for Internet of Things and wireless networks will have the highest growth rates. Even so, the generated sales pales in comparison to what mobile phones will bring to the table, according to the market analyst.

The total annual production value of electronic systems is projected to increase five per cent in 2014, compared to 2013 to $1.49 trillion and climb to about $1.82 trillion in 2018, which represents a CAGR of 5.2 per cent from $1.41 trillion in 2013, according to IC Insights.

The table below compares the relative market sizes and projected growth rates through 2018 of 10 major systems segments that occupy a large part of the electronics systems market. The Internet of Things is expected to display the highest CAGR at 21.1 per cent.
