China has recently ousted the United States to rule the world's economy, and now it's South Korea's turn to get overthrown in the smartphone arena.

The Federation of Korean Industries released a report showing nine Chinese smartphone makersHuawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi, ZTE, Vivo, Coolpad, TCL, Gionee and Opposurpassing Samsung and LG with their combined market share for the second quarter of 2014.

The Chinese brands have logged 31.3 per cent of the global market share, while Samsung and LG placed second with a joint 30.1 per cent share, CNet quoted FKI. In the same period two years ago, China recorded only 14.6 per cent, with South Korea posting 34.8 per cent, almost three times bigger than it's neighbour's share.

South Korea's biggest smartphone maker, Samsung, shipped more than 74 million devices to get a huge chunk of the country's share with 25.2 per cent. China's Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi were the top three this period among the country's vendors. Their combined shares totalled 17.3 per cent, which is bigger than Apple's 11.9 per cent share.

The major factors that have directly impacted South Korea's poor performance for the last two years include price-competitive phones made by Chinese companies and the strong interest in Apple's iPhone 6, said FKI, which then advised South Korean companies to seek new industries to make up for their losses.
