Asian solar cell maker to use multi busbar tech from SCHMID

SCHMID Group has revealed that it has received an order from a premium maker of solar cells and solar modules in Asia to be used in the construction of three Multi Busbar Connector (MBC) lines. According to SCHMID, its MBC concept boosts module efficiency, minimises the cost of materials and allows easy integration into existing module lines.

Instead of the previous standard of three wide ribbons, these systems apply 8-15 thin busbar wires. These wires improve the cell efficiency through reduced shadowing and thereby increase the module power. The MBC technology of SCHMID also allows savings of silver and thus a reduction in material costs, the company stated.

Another advantage of SCHMID MBC systems, noted the company, is based on the fact that they can interconnect both standard and high-efficiency solar cells, for example, bifacial solar cells. It is noteworthy that the interconnection technology of the MBC system uses standardised soldering technologies and standard materials. Thus, the innovative lines of the SCHMID can be easily integrated into existing module lines and provide a crucial technology upgrade at relatively very low costs.

The said customer, a manufacturer with its own R&D department, places great emphasis on profitability, increased efficiency and the high degree of innovation of the MBC system that was a decisive factor in the purchase of three MBC systems from SCHMID. Furthermore, the positive experience gained with SCHMID products so far convinced the said customer to award another contract to the SCHMID, added the company.

The three MBC lines will be delivered by the middle of next year.
