Google Inc. has laid down three key areas for the government of Thailand to successfully develop an innovative digital economy. According to Ariya Banomyong, country manager of Google Thailand, the country should focus its attention on narrowing the gap between urban and rural education through digital technologies, building entrepreneurship, and promoting culture and creative industries.

"The digital economy initiative is committed to breaking new ground in the digital revolution and its profound impact on society, work and the economy," he said. About two-thirds of Thailand's people access the Internet through mobile devices, compared with less than a third of the population three years ago.

Ariya urged the government to invest in a national education system with effective use of digital technologies and e-learning. He said that bolstering the ranks of Thai entrepreneurs would lead to new products and processes and ultimately increase efficiency through competition in the market.

Moreover, creation of new opportunities through entrepreneurship, productivity and innovation could lead to economic growth. When entrepreneurship flourishes, the economy follows suit. Promoting and strengthening ICT-based cultural innovations will boost the potential of the creative industries that are expected to have a big economic impact on Thailand, added Ariya.
