Delta Industrial Automation (IA) has recently announced its Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm (SCARA) DRS40L series and robot solution. According to the company, the DRS40L series is aimed at processes such as insertion, screw locking, assembly, coating, transfer, soldering, transporting and packaging for the consumer electronics, electrical/electronics, rubber and plastic packaging, metal fabrication and other industries.

Delta's SCARA DRS40L series is being applied to many production lines and process workstations at Delta IA's production bases in Wujiang, China and Taoyuan, Taiwan. According to actual application results and analysis, the DRS40L series improves daily productivity by nearly three times, shortens production times and cycles, and greatly reduces required manpower. For example, a DRS40L Series robot arm is currently completing the gluing process during the assembly conveyance of 24.8 million power supplies every year.

Delta DRS40L series

Delta's SCARA DRS40L series boasts excellent speed, repeatability, linearity and verticality with a maximum load of 3kg and arm length of 400mm. The compliance control function of the DRS40L series can compensate the deviation between work pieces and insertion holes. It helps the DRS40L series precisely complete insertion, assembly, screw locking, transferring and packaging. The automatic process path planning function of the DRS40L series meets the requirements of synchronised tracking applications such as processes for gluing, deburring and soldering. When matched with a machine vision system, the DRS40L series can identify defective products and categorise them, greatly improving yield rate and quality, stated the company.
