Managing wireless sensors, stitching images
Koichiro Yamashita (below) showed back-end software that enabled a cloud service to cope with problems in a large set of wireless sensor nodes acting as environmental monitors. The cloud service can offload jobs and route traffic around nodes that break down or run out of power.
A trial system using the program has been running for a year on a steep roadside slope above a highway in Taiwan where an old school stands on a hill.

Separately, researchers showed a sophisticated image-stitching program (below) capable of digitalising large archived documents too fragile to be handled. The software works with a variety of scanners.
