Toshiba unveils smallest CMOS image sensor

Responding to the growing demand for small form factor chips, Toshiba Electronics Europe launched the world's smallest CMOS image sensor suited for slim, high-end smartphones and tablets.
Aside from its compact design, the T4KB3 employs the Bright Mode technology, which boosts image brightness four-fold. The 13Mpx sensor features backside illumination and has an optical format of 1/3.07inch. It enables HD video capture at 120fps with full 1080p support.
The device also utilises low-power circuitry to reduce power consumption by up to 53 per cent of that used by Toshiba's preceding image sensor T4K82. The chip achieves 200mW or less at 30fps with full 13Mpx output.
The sensor is also fitted with 8Kbit of one-time programmable memory, and lens shading correction data for two conditions can be stored, allowing different correction data suited for indoor or outdoor use. The reference module measures 8.5x8.5mm2 at auto-focus and 6.7x6.7mm2 at fixed focus.
