TDK has rolled out the TCM0403R thin-film common-mode filter, which offers a common-mode attenuation of 27.5dB at 850MHz in a 0403 package (0.45mm x 0.30mm), nearly 60 per cent smaller than the existing TCM0605R.

The new filter features a low insertion height of only 0.23mm.

With a 5GHz cut-off frequency and 500MHz to 2.4GHz range, the TCM0403R thin-film common-mode filter suppresses noise without distorting high-speed differential signals.

It is compatible with high-speed interfaces such as MIPI, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 and features a typical DC resistance of 3.5. It improves the WLAN reception sensitivity in smartphones, conventional mobile phones and other compact portable devices. Mass production began in May 2015.

The miniaturisation was realised using TDK's thin-film patterning technology that it developed through HDD magnetic head manufacturing combined with compact, high-precision coil pattern and terminal formation processes.
