China buys Segway

Of all the personal transporter manufacturers in China, Ninebot has just become the most famous of all. The 3-year-old start-up recently got an $80 million investment from Xiaomi, in addition to three VC firms, and acquired the U.S.-based Segway. Exactly how much Ninebot paid for Segway acquisition remains unknown, but the Bedford, New Hampshire-based Segway, the granddaddy of them all in this product category, is now officially a Chinese company.

More smartwatches on the way

Should a smartwatch be a watch or a smartphone? The industry is still grappling with that question.

Rockioo Technology strongly believes that a user should be able to make a phone call from the watch. "You don't want carrying a smartphone, on top of a smartwatch, especially when playing sports," said a company representative at the booth.

Fully featured with cellular and wireless capabilities including WCDMA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, the smartwatch with a 1.63in OLED display is housed in a titanium body. There's no need to tether to a smartphone. It's water resistant up to 50m, and it comes with unique built-in running app.

The watch, measuring 41.5mm x 41.5mm x 11mm, might be a tad too big for some people.
