Intel's message yesterday at the Computex Taipei was mainly around "wireless," from wireless charging to collaboration to small form-factor devices that use the company's Atom series mobile processors. In fact, Intel's Kirk Skaugen, SVP & GM of the Client Computing Group, started the press conference with the excited mention of the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) announcement that they have [finally] signed the merger agreementsomething they've been discussing for over a year.

Skaugen emphasized that with 170 companies now participating in a single standard, wireless charging was about to become ubiquitous. There's, of course, the Wireless Power Consortium and its Qi wireless charging platform still very much out there.

Among merged alliance's users are Dupont, Emirates [yes, the airlines], the Hilton and Marriott hotels, Jaguar and Land Rover and new partners include Haier, BYD and Foxconn. Intel even displayed a table from Kokuyoa furniture maker and partnerthat allowed a number of devices, including laptops and smartphones to charge wirelessly. Skaugen said the implementation did not require drilling holes through the 2in thick top plank of the table.

Intel unites workplaces

Next up from Intel is a push into the business space with its vPro collection of hardware and software technologies. Intel's Core processors with vPro have features that enable enterprises to manage and keep secure their PCs. Things like remote management and certificate-based remote configurability come under vPro umbrella.
