Facebook's Oculus VR LLC plans to buy a start-up from Israel called Pebbles Interfaces Ltd for approximately $60 million.

Pebbles, founded in 2010, develops 3D gesture recognition and tracking systems that can detect and capture hands in dynamic 3D detail.

Oculus VR is the developer of the Oculus Rift virtual reality system that comes in the form of a ski-mask with twin displays to provide a stereo view of the an alternative world. In March 2014, Facebook announced it would acquire Oculus VR for about $400 million in cash and 23.1 million common shares of Facebook, valued at $1.6 billion. The deal could be extended by another $300 million if the subsidiary company reaches certain milestones.

Pebbles Interfaces has developed technology that uses custom optics, sensor systems and algorithms to detect and track hand movement. Pebbles has integrated its technology into the virtual-reality headset developed by Facebook's Oculus VR, enabling users to interact with the device via hand and finger gestures.
