Mitsumi Electric has introduced the MJ3401 that claims to extend the usage life of the battery with higher accuracy overcharge detection voltage, and guarantees normal current of the set with high accuracy overcurrent cutoff current. According to the company, the product has been designed with the concept of cutting off abnormal currents in safer areas.

This contributes to a higher level of safety for mobile devices that use lithium ion secondary batteries.

The IC boasts an internal memory that allows correction of overcharge detection voltage and overcurrent cutoff current after package assembly. It allows the effects of assembly stress to be corrected and increases the overcharge detection voltage precision. Providing feedback of the FET on resistance characteristics to the overcharge detection voltage increases the overcurrent cutoff current precision. The device also feature a 2-in-1 package with protection IC and charge/discharge switch FET

The MJ3401 has a low height (0.5mm max.) despite being a stacked in 2-in-1 package, which contributes to thinner boards, noted the company.

The protection IC has a maximum rated voltage of 10V max. (protection IC section), 24V max. (FET section); maximum power dissipation of 1W; drain current of 12A max. (DC); an operating voltage range of 1.5V to 5.5V; an overcharge detection voltage of 4.1V to 4.6V 10mV (possible setting range and tolerance); and an over-discharge detection voltage of 2V to 3V 35mV (possible setting range and tolerance).

In addition, the device offers a discharge overcurrent cutoff current of 4A to 8A 20 per cent or less (possible setting range and tolerance); charge overcurrent cutoff current of 4A to 8A 20 per cent or less (possible setting range and tolerance); and source-source on resistance of 11m typ.

The MJ3401 is available in a 2.1mm x 4.1mm x 0.5mm PLP-4-2141 package.
