OmniVision Technologies Inc. has introduced a high definition (HD) CameraChip sensor intended for high-performance security cameras. The 1/3in OV2718 leverages OmniVision's OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture to deliver best-in-class low-light sensitivity, high dynamic range (HDR), and 1080p HD video, making it ideal for mainstream security and surveillance systems.

According to the company, the OV2718 can record 1080p HD video at 30fps in HDR mode.

The OV2718 leverages OmniVision's in-pixel HDR technology to capture crisp, clear images and video when recording in high- and low-light environments, a critical benefit for security and surveillance cameras, indicated the company.

The OV2718 is available for sampling, and is expected to enter volume production by the end of 2015.
