NEC recently announced that they are part of an interactive taxi entertainment (ITE) solution being supplied to Blue Bird Taxi in Indonesia.

Blue Bird Taxi, a service by the Blue Bird Group, has been quick in the use of technology probably because it can draw on its experience in the logistics sector. Way back in 2011, they had Blackberry, iOS and Android apps for booking taxis. And now, claims NEC in an email Q&A last week with EE Times Asia, they will be the first in Asia to provide not just video but interactivity with their passenger entertainment systems. The recent announcement marks the delivery of digital signage solutions for the entertainment system.

Serving movies and music and delivering advertisements approved by Blue Bird (I assume non-competing ads) through Jakarta's traffic jams, the ITE solution brings together engineering from Microsoft, NEC, Intel and Acer.

The system is powered by a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3740 processorBay Trail-T Quad-core. "Computing performance offered by Intel Atom Bay Trail Processor enables multiple ITE applications to be used simultaneously," Harry K. Nugraha, channel business director, Intel Indonesia, had disclosed last year when announcing the new business.
