According to a Bloomberg report that referenced unnamed sources, Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) and Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) have both called it quits in their respective chase to buy Maxim Integrated Products Inc. Neither potential buyer could agree a price with Maxim, which was looking for a large premium, the report indicated.

Maxim exec: More power needed for industry
Stratakos, CTO at Maxim, stated that five years down the line, we see the primary challenges of power management being the need for increased power density, increased efficiency and lower cost.

Maxim, an analogue and mixed-signal chip company, was conducting a strategic review of its business with a bank in October 2015 when it was approached by ADI. A week later it was revealed that TI was also involved in talks with Maxim.

Maxim is continuing to work on its strategic plan with Goldman Sachs Group and this could include a sale of Maxim or the acquisition of smaller companies by Maxim, the report added.
