Broadcom Ltd has announced the addition to its portfolio of 12Gbit/s SAS+SATA host bus adapters (HBAs) with 24-and 16-port models. The high-port count 9305 HBA family includes what the company boasts as the industry's first 12Gb/s model with 24-ports on a single chip, offering increased performance, extended system scalability and decreased per-port power consumption.

The SAS 9305 family is geared for large scale-out storage requirements. The HBAs enable OEMs and system builders to maximise connectivity and increase performance, while reducing costs, design footprint and power consumption, detailed the company.

The Broadcom SAS+SATA 9305 family of 24-and 16-port 12Gbit/s HBAs include the 9305-24i, 9305-16e and 9305-16i, addressing hyperscale connectivity and performance requirements with: 24 internal or 16 external or internal 12Gb/s SAS+SATA ports with power consumption at less than 1W per port; support of up to x8 PCIe lanes at transfer rate up to 8GT/s per lane; PCI Express 3.0; and fourth-generation SAS 3224 and SAS 3216 SAS+SATA controllers.

The devices are certified by Broadcom to support up to 1024 SSDs, HDDs and tape drives, as well as OS support for Microsoft Windows, Linux (SuSE, Red Hat), Solaris, VMware and FreeBSD.

The SAS 9305 family is available.
