Cognex has developed the In-Sight Micro 8000 smart cameras that the company said combine fast frame rates and pattern matching in a compact 31mm x 31mm x 63mm package that includes Power over Ethernet to minimise cabling. According to the company, the tiny, standalone vision systems fit into tight spaces anywhere on the production line such as hard-to-reach machinery and robots.

The series comprises models that provide VGA (640px x480px) resolution with acquisition speeds of 200fps, as well as high-resolution 1MP, 2MP and 5MP versions with acquisition speeds of 70fps, 53fps and 10fps, respectively. All of the In-Sight Micro 8000 smart cameras have 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet network interfaces and support Class 2 Power over Ethernet Type A and Type B standards. Power consumption is 6.49W maximum per Class 2 PoE.

Like other In-Sight vision systems, the Micro 8000 series is configured using In-Sight Explorer software. The programme offers step-by-step EasyBuilder set-up, which provides a spreadsheet view for greater control, noted the company. It also includes PatMax RedLine for fast pattern matching, as well as tools for image processing, blob and edge detection, defect detection, identification (1-D, 2-D and OCR) and nonlinear calibration.
