Support for OmniShield security technology is one of the latest important characteristics of MIPS CPUs. Based on hardware virtualisation technology, OmniShield can provide a foundation for multi-domain security on the CPU by adding a new priority level in the architecture and supporting multiple isolated domains. OmniShield is also supported by other Imagination processors including PowerVR GPUs, enabling multi-domain security at the SoC level.

Imagination also supports the establishment of the prpl Foundation with the aim to promote the development of application portability, virtualisation and security and heterogeneous computing from IoT to datacenter. The open source foundation's work is centred around the MIPS architecture, but is open to others.

64bit MIPS P6600 multi-processing system

The P6600 has a 16-stage, multi-issue, out of order pipeline design that integrates the 128bit MIPS SIMD Architecture (MSA). It achieves superior processing power, area efficiency and provides efficient parallel processing of vector operations for multimedia applications. It is suitable for application markets including mobile, home entertainment, networking and automotive.

The P6600 integrates fully associative Level 1 BTB branch prediction, enhanced Level 2 fast cache memory sub-system, complete hardware virtualisation support and OmniShield technology to improve the security and reliability of various applications.
