WIN Semiconductors enters optical device market with foundry services

Taiwanese company WIN Semiconductors Corp. has announced that it will expand its portfolio by venturing into the high data rate optical device market. WIN Semiconductor will be setting up its own optical device production capabilities as an addition to its existing gallium arsenide and gallium nitride technology portfolio.

These new foundry services provide flexible, large scale manufacturing of a variety of complex laser and photodiode designs for 2.5G, 10G and 25G data rates. This vertical production capability provides customisable manufacturing services including epitaxial growth/regrowth, material and device characterisation as well as full device fabrication and testing.

WIN's flexible epitaxial growth and optical device manufacturing will accommodate indium phosphide substrates from two-inch to four-inch diameters. Epitaxial growth/characterisation services for lasers and photo diodes are now in place, and installation/development of a complete optical device fabrication line is underway and scheduled for full release by Q4 2016. This vertically integrated device capability will provide the optical market with access to WIN Semiconductors' manufacturing scale, production efficiency and technology expertise.
