Linear Technology has introduced a step-down Module regulator that delivers two 4A outputs that can be current-shared as a single 8A output regulated to within 1.5% over line and load variations. The LTM4642 comes in a 9mm x 11.25mm x 4.92mm BGA package that enables designers to fit the POL regulator into tight spaces on densely populated boards in industrial, robotic, medical and telecom systems, indicated the company.

The LTM4642 accommodate an input voltage range of 2.375V to 20V, and regulates two voltages adjustable from 0.6V to 5.5V. When delivering full current at a 1.8V load from input supplies of 12V, 5V and 3.3V, the LTM4642 achieves operating efficiencies of 88%, 91% and 93%, respectively.

Linear Technology guarantees the LTM4642 over a temperature range of -40C to 125C. The device can be synchronised to a supplied clock with a frequency ranging from 600kHz to 1.4MHz. Output ripple is reduced because of the part's 180 out-of-phase operation. Low package thermal impedance enables full load current up to 95C ambient with no airflow and 100C with 200LFM airflow when converting 12V to a 1V output.

The LTM4642 regulator costs $19.43 in lots of 1000 units.
