What is DisplayPort?
DisplayPort is a digital display interface standard put forth by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) since 2006. It defines a royalty-free (as of 2009), digital audio/video interconnect, intended to be used primarily between a computer and its display monitor, or a computer and a home-theatre system. The first version was approved in May 2006 and version 1.1a was approved in January 2008. DisplayPort signalling and protocol are different from those for DVI or HDMI. The interface includes optional DisplayPort Content Protection (DPCP) copy-protection from Philips, which uses 128bit AES encryption. Version 1.1 adds support for HDCP. |
