Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) describes technologies for transmitting Ethernet frames at the rate of a gigabit per second, as defined by the IEEE 802.3-2005 standard. The specification allows half-duplex gigabit links connected through hubs but full-duplex with switches are commonly available.
